Scattered Brains

Neustadt Musings:

According to a few upper crusty literary critical types my SSWC08 (NAPA RECAPA) summary was (just a few descriptors) vague, dis-jointed, incomplete and cryptic…wow, and this is news?

If you really want more better stuff:

KAREN BROOKS – DirtRagBlog – Good weekend review complete with a mid-article reference to the powerful MISFITPSYCLES CORPORATION…yet no mention of Napa sticker distribution. Odd.

JUSTIN KLINE – Princeton Tec – An honest review by a fellow DNF’er (courtesy of an EBB fup). In addition to another reference to CORPORATE PSYCLES…Justin managed to include a brief tale of the fat Scotsman. Too brief. My bet is Jeff Lockwood threatened legal action if he so much as mentioned his name, suckling and the Scotsman in the same sentence. But you get the idea.

And there is probably a whack more…look them up, I don’t need to.  I was there.
Jiggy?

Scenesters Unite:

A couple of off-handed (and quite premature) references to a new sticker project (firstly during the Superfly Roundup and later during a cranked up dump in the midst of proper hater thread on MTBR) has created an admirable amount of interest…while said interest is muchly appreciated THE STICKER GUY doesn’t even have the art work yet.

People. If your finances are that abundant, GO HERE and BUY!

Gogol Bordello – ULTIMATE
If we are here not to do
What you and I wanna do
And go forever crazy with it
Why the hell are we even here?

There was never any good old days
They are today, they are tomorrow
It’s a stupid thing we say
Cursing tomorrow with sorrow

When we stand here in a row
Looking like a bunch of heroes
I know that deep inside
Nothing more but bunch of zeroes

Skolko utetchki tepla
Vot takaja vot sudba
Nam segodnja suzdena
A bit mezget chto kogda da-j povezet!

Steppin’ on the trail of Ultimate
I would never choose to die
so give me rest of all the secrets
give me new culture of life

SuperFly Round Up

Posted in General Stuff on August 27th, 2008

The Superfly Tuesday Fun Series ended with a bang last night…you see after the stunning destruction of the young upstart TOM LOWRY for MANY weeks prior, there was now a tie for first in the singlespeed category.

This needed to be settled.

The BlackBull council decided that rather then race one more night (obviously this was stacked heavily in favor of my massive momentum), the series should be decided by an obstacle course…may the best man win…at least that was the claim, but was it?

I have documented much of the shenanigans and biased favoritism that transpired…I should have expected this (puny monitor peoples don’t strain thine eyes…a link will follow):

Need the real deal? Then read the post HERE.

Tonight is the singlespeed finale and awards for the Trek/King Wednesday Series…I will be in costume…this is my costume…I call it, snake:

To all those riders that attempted to race through our slow-ride-trail-hogging bought with assholiousus…on your left?

Ya right.

Special thanks to Lepper/Lowry for the inspiration for r-rated sticker round TWO.

Skyline Gatehouse…somewhere nearby are my instructions, key code and priority seating…

It should be noted that the peoples running the Skyline Park campsite were most excellent…seriously accommodating kind souls. THE best 16$ I ever done spent.

My only regret is inadvertently allowing TEAM DICKY entry into the park (as I left on a brief errand late thursday night). I feel like I let everyone else down…he was there to stay.

American Cyclery social club…ample beer to the right yet it was no match for a real live SanFran hipster ‘happening’ on the left.
Theyre off! Dude, that a singlespeed?

Big oooopps.

SaturdaySSWC Race?

It’s morning…my cooler is empty…sold some things…
Victory!

Barf left, Pass right...got it?
Barf left, Pass right…got it you little shites?
Bike? I put it here somewhere...
You wait here…
Despite winning I stopped to take photos of some more averager people
Despite leading the entire race early on, I stopped to take photos of some more averager type people…cause I’m that kind of guy.

The tick-tockiness of my impending (monday) flight and the massive drive back to Vancouver ensured that my mid-pack victory would not be celebrated…there was no way in hellski that I could muster the full drive but if I didn’t make 10hrs after the race I would be driving ALL the way back to Toronto.

Once done the ‘ride’, so rushed was I, that by the time I noticed my opener cried out DNF…it was too late to protest…the tent was down, bike tored apart, truck packed and my oh so soaplessly showered body was ready-set-to-jet…make that simply unwilling to walk the Napa desert disguised as camp ground one more time.

Not inaccurate at all...
Not inaccurate at all…

My agent sucks.

I’ve said it before…the inventor of Audio Tactile Profiled Markings was genius. I made it to Vancouver at 1am, and only the third time I crossed those heavenly buffers…Vancouver WA…well almost good enough.

Good bye America...write?
Good bye America…will you write?

While it certainly felt like the majority of the week was spent flailing about the inside of my rented coffin…the journey that was SSWC08 was pretty stupendous. Suffice it to say the riding was great, the scene ‘tolerable’ (you know what I mean by scene…) and it is clear to me that the forces of good in cycling still rule the bad. Def’n – Good: People that like me, really like me.

Looking to promote SSWC09 the real somebodies and players (in the world that revolves around the Misfit Psycles Corporation) were pre-issued tickets for the DURANGO edition next summer…and people, I look forward to doing you all over again.

Double down victories...
Double down victories???
DNF??? You are an embarrassment!

Perhaps over the days to follow I will list off a few of the jokers, spinsters and celebrities that got to meet me, I may even regale you with some of the g-rated good times that we had…without you…but likely I won’t, you see, I left Napa a veritable popstar on this punk planet, details would only sully the beauty that is my world.

To the organizers, to the volunteers and to generally everyone – well done.

ONE FINAL NOTE – Superfly Racing: Tuesday FUNN Series Tie Breaker TONIGHT! 7pm Albion Hills, ON – and Rom, I’m bringing your prize!!!

Rumors of the distance from Vancouver to Napa was no where near as exaggerated as I would have hoped…much of the drive was brilliant.

The Rooooof
The Rooooof

Passing the time. XM radio was an interesting option…the continuous, fixed channel selection and absence of commercials were bonus…making for seamless entertainment…however…the lack of breaks and the fixed nature of the content requires a regular replay of said content over any 14hr period.

Look, CUTE LEPERS!

So Cute Lepper...rather Leper...
Cute Lepper…everybody knows that…

Passing the time. Mid-way boredom set in and no amount of satellite entertainment could stop that…or could it???

Arrived 840pst.
1601 total km for 24hrs.

This is the End

Off to SanFran now, explore, ride, repeat…photos to follow…the ones that can’t be construed as evidence…

Hit the Road

Posted in General Stuff on August 21st, 2008

The time is now 5:15am PST – Richmond BC.

Scheduled to depart some 15 minutes ago, the blackened coffee that slid from the toilet based brewer was barely enough to coax a shower…while I force down cup two I reflect.

Hmmmmmmm
Hmmmmmm

Mama, it is a way long way to Napa. Good thing there is XM in my planet crusher…

DIEDIEDIE

Are we excited?

No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night…with 30 plus 13 y/o’s…they were up squealing and giggling until almost 22:30…
