Prologue Complete.

Despite the terrible incursion we endured less than an hour prior to the start.
That very start went off without a hitch.

My start time 15:57.
Sharp.

If you or they missed the allotted start, you rolled out whenever, clocked already turning.
I did not miss my start, I have no excuse.

So far organization has been spot on.
Mike has been visible at all major points of contact. This is a rare treat at a venue of this magnitude.
He was even kind enough to taunt mid-pitch in the last quarter mile.

Speaking of abusive fans, Dejay (hell bent on revenge no doubt for the lack of support at the Firecracker 50) made his mostly naked self available at the mostly mid point and beat riders about the face with a novelty sunflower and shouted directives at the hikers.

I was fortunate enough to enjoy both.
He likes me, he really likes me.

Suffering well beyond even the most lucid of pessimistic projections…I could not function.

Flat or mostly flat single track required frequent walks.
Grasping at the futility of ‘racing’ I slowed up and took in the sights.
Took photos.

Considered smashing the skull in of the next rider that yelled out ‘tracking’ as he spun past.
Maybe.

On the way down I found a nice touristy family that took my picture.
When you finish 10 of 11 in your category, you ride to town alone.

Next up, day 2, Stage 1.
A big beefy shit of a day, more more more.
65% plus single track.
45 miles.
7000′ climbing.
It will be rad, if I can ride.

NEWSFLASH – Marc and Kim just completed BC Bike Race on singlespeeds.
diSSents no less.
Kim, was the FIRST WOMAN TO COMPLETE THE BCBR ON A SINGLESPEED.
