Breck Epic: Stage 3

Stage 3 is day 4.
The biggest of the big they say.
They say that every day.

Lots of climbing.
Lots of climbing at altitude.
Lots of descending.
Lots of technical descension.

Suffice to say my positioning did not improve.
It will not improve.
Stop asking.

I did climb 70% of the ups.
I did ride 100% of the downs.
I felt about 75%.

If only the Breck was 8 days, not 6…I’d totally kick it to 9th, maybe 8th.

Long of the short, today was the best 5:45+/- on a bike this week.
Maybe probably in a long time.

Approaching the second climb, as I swiveled on my pivot and collected digital memories, a familiar green and white wool jersey appeared.
Behind.

Tomi

A truly odd sight.
Only moments prior Tomi had been challenging and dominating Dicky for mid-pack supremacy.
In his excitement Tomi was tossed off course and down hill.

It wasn’t long before Tomi grew tired of my Ansel Adam’ing and stomped away.

Tomi Bye

Despite the rather flacid appearance of this trail the combination of quality and altitude left most pushing enroute to the summit at over 12,000′.

Dissent

Brilliant.
I won’t waste bandwidth with tightly cropped images of the scenes, go to FLICKR for full rez low quality shots.

Incidentally, who have I been riding with, shooting the shit with, trashing with for three days?

Keith

Keith Bontrager.  THE Keith Bontrager.

Please don’t tell him I took this photo.  In my defence I didn’t know who he was until the end of todays stage when we talked some more and the ducks fell in line.

Fucking brilliant.

I expect that if I were to look at Keith Bontrager’s blog, he would be talking about meeting THE Peter Keiller. Or something.

I still don’t understand why you’re suffering in the thin air of Colorado when you could be suffering like a dog in the blazing Kamloops heat. But, that’s just me.

    Good job nonetheless.

I met Keith Bontrager when I did LaRuta back in 2003. I was still pretty new to biking and had no idea who he was. I just thought he was a super hottie for an older guy…

Good luck for the rest of the week.
